Join me at Local Vines and Gourmet Wine Shop in Cohasset, MA to taste the best that Italy has to offer at an affordable price.
This course will take us from the Northwest home of Nebbiola (Guidobono Barbera D’Alba, 2012), known for Barolo and Barbaresco, where the locals have the privilege of drinking some of the most sophisticated wines in the world. Our tour will take us to the Northeast, on the border of Slovenia – just North of Venice – where we find some of the greatest white wines in the world. On the boarder of Austria, this region has mastered and become the home of Pinto Grigio (Marco Felluga Mongris Pinot Grigio Collio, 2012). From the Central area of Italy, Tuscany, we’ll explore the “iconic” Chianti (Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva. 2009), perhaps the most food-friendly wine in the world. We’ll make a quick pit stop for Prosseco (Carpene Malvoltt Prosecco), and head on to the Valpolicella area that is making a comeback with the increasingly sought-after Amarone della Valpoicella (Stephano Accordini Valpolicella Classico, 2012). Finally, Sicily. Not too long ago, Sicilian wine was used for little more than industrial solvents and the like. Things have changed in a big way. Come learn how and why certain areas of Sicily are becoming some of the most exciting and dynamic “new” wine producing areas in the world.
